Travel in comfort aboard your Coach Holidays & Tours luxury coach to Rookwood Necropolis, one of the world’s finest examples of a Victorian gardenesque cemetery and the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. Covering nearly 300 hectares and home to over one million souls, this historic site offers a deeply engaging and reflective day of history, remembrance, and storytelling.

Begin your day with a guided tour led by volunteers from the Friends of Rookwood, a passionate community organisation dedicated to the conservation and interpretation of this significant site. Tour options may include:

  • Heritage Walks: Explore the original Anglican, Presbyterian, Jewish, and Catholic sections where symbolism and funerary art abound. Learn about historical figures such as John Fairfax, David Scott Mitchell, and Bee Miles.

  • Themed Tours: Depending on availability and guide scheduling, guests may experience tours such as:

    • Women of Note

    • Military Heroes

    • The Irish Tour

    • Murder & Mayhem

    • Ships & Shipwrecks

    • 19th Century Sydney

    • Railway Walk

    • Plague & Pestilence

    • Twilight in Daylight

    • The Scottish Tour

Each themed walk provides a different lens through which to view the lives of those who shaped early Sydney — from suffragettes and entertainers to convicts, soldiers, and innovators.

Tours generally begin with a visit to the War Graves section and include time for quiet reflection or photography.

After your immersive morning tour, enjoy a relaxed and social lunch at Rosehill Bowling Club, a nearby venue offering friendly service and classic fare in a welcoming setting.

Please note: While the cemetery is mostly accessible, some uneven terrain may be present, so walking shoes are recommended.
