Day 2: Wangaratta, Glenrowan, the King Valley Wine Country & Sam Miranda Winery
This morning enjoy a brief Wangaratta town tour. Wangaratta is graced with some fine buildings dating from the mid-19th century. It is a short drive to Glenrowan with a drive past the site of the Kelly Gang’s last stand & where he was eventually captured in 1880. From Glenrowan travel across to meet the King Valley Wine Country drive. Boasting some of the highest altitude vineyards in Australia, the King Valley is highly regarded for its cool-climate wines and European style varietals. The King Valley region is home to some of Australia’s best-known winemakers. A special lunch will be provided at Sam Miranda Winery. The family have been making wine since the 1930’s, so Sam Miranda claims he grew up with wine in his veins. They have embraced the whole Italian lifestyle in everything they do, and this is shown through the high calibre wines they continue to produce for you everyone to enjoy. This afternoon some free time available to explore Wangaratta town Centre or just relax & enjoy the impressive facilities at the Motel.
Day 3: Yarrawonga & Corowa
This morning from Wangaratta travel west to Yarrawonga to board the MV Paradise Queen for a morning cruise on Lake Mulwala. Lake Mulwala was created in 1939 by building a dam across the Murray River between Yarrawonga in Victoria and Mulwala in New South Wales to provide irrigation water for the surrounding district. The Paradise Queen, a family owned, and operated business has earned the moniker as an ‘Icon’ of Lake Mulwala pushing off from the banks of the lake around five hundred times a year on her various voyages. After the cruise enjoy lunch provided at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club. This afternoon travel back via historic Corowa, often referred to as the home of Federation on the NSW side of the Murray River. You will pass through nearby Rutherglen wine region as you return to Wangaratta.
Day 4: Legendary Beauty – Bright
North Eastern Victoria is well known for the beauty of its countryside. As you head towards the area around Bright, you will be amazed by the beautiful bushland, gardens of radiant colours and mountain views. At any time of the year, Bright and the surrounding countryside offers some of the most spectacular scenery in Victoria. In autumn, trees ablaze with red and gold and the vibrant colours paint a picture as rich as the gold fever that inspired the early settlers. Carpets of leaves pave the way for winter & in spring as the snowmelts in the high country, the rivers and streams flow with new vigour, blossoms fill the air, and the countryside abounds with new growth. Time for you to purchase some morning tea upon arrival in Bright, with free time in the centre of town followed by a guided tour of Bright with a stop at Nightingale Bros Orchard shop. On departure as you return from Bright lunch will be provided at Snowline Red Deer Farm. It is a stunning location with views over the countryside. See the Deer & learn something of the operation of this unique property. It is only a 15-minute journey onto Pepo Farm, the only producer of edible pumpkin seeds in Australia. All other pepitas are imported from China. Gain an insight into this unique family farming operation & taste the healthy, nutritious range of seeds & oils.
Day 5: Times Past – Beechworth
At the heart of one of Victoria’s biggest goldfields, is the historic township of Beechworth. It stands today much as it did over a century ago, when it was home to thousands of hopeful prospectors. Upon arrival in Beechworth our local town guide will enlighten you with tall tales of the gold rush days and Ned Kelly when he frequented these parts. After the tour take time for some morning tea. The famous Beechworth Bakery is recommended with its outstanding, mouth-watering range of pastries. At 11.20am meet at the historic Court House for the Ned Kelly Trial Re-enactment at 11.30am. Lunch will be provided in Beechworth at the quaint Moments & Memories Tea House before some free time to explore the historic precinct & the impressive range of speciality stores & coffee shops.
Day 6: Journey Home
Today it is time to farewell that unique part of Victoria fondly characterised as a region of “Legends, Wine & High Country”. Heading north with a morning tea break followed by lunch normally provided in Yass. As you travel home, we hope you are taking with you many happy new memories of your time in the Wangaratta region & that the warmth & friendship shared on this holiday will always be remembered.
